MAIL BY RAIL
This book summarizes the history of the U.S.A. Railway Mail Service (RMS) and Postal Transportation Service (PTS) between 1864 and the publication date of 1951. Bryant Alden Long (BAL) was a Railway Mail Clerk working in the New York and Washington Railway Post Office (RPO). He founded the AmeRPO (American RPO) Society and a branch of the Traveling Post Office and Seapost Society, established in Great Britain during 1938. MAIL BY RAIL is a standard reference for this subject.
Co-author William J. Dennis wrote THE TRAVELING POST OFFICE during the early 1900s. Its content was updated by BAL and largely incorporated within the early chapters in this book. BAL added the later chapters about other countries and RPO lore.
Those interested in RMS/PTS history are invited to contact the Railway Mail Service Library, 117 East Main Street, Boyce, Virginia 22620-9639. Meanwhile, enjoy MAIL BY RAIL!
